Karen Sanders
Photographer | Writer | Visual Storyteller
I create images where story and soul meet. With an MA in Aesthetic Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas, I bring a writer’s eye to photography—capturing not just what something looks like, but the layers of meaning beneath it. My work often explores the quiet relationships between people, animals, and place, revealing beauty in both the extraordinary and the overlooked.
Over the past decade+, I’ve photographed across genres—travel and wildlife, portraiture (pets and people), fine art, and documentary. My images and essays have been published internationally, and I’ve collaborated on three nonfiction books with Texas entrepreneur Sam Wyly. Alongside photography, I spent more than 11 years marketing luxury design products, experience that sharpened my visual instincts and my ability to communicate story with clarity and impact.
Based in Dallas and Aspen, I work wherever the story takes me. Whether it’s a portrait, editorial assignment, or commercial commission, my aim is always the same: to help you see—and tell—your story in a way that resonates.
Dog Day Afternoon
One of my favorite annual events is the Dog Day Afternoon Community Carnival at the Aspen Animal Shelter.
